DetroitIntern Network has revamped its internship program and wants you to be a fall executive intern!

We expect you to shape your internship experience, but some of the duties of an Fall Executive Intern could include:

1) Promoting the DetroitIntern Network through pre-approved emailing, social networking, attending events, and distributing marketing materials.

2) Communicating with the President and the Director of Marketing and Community Relations.

3) Attending occasional (via phone) status meeting.

4) Completing a preformatted status report for each assignment.

5) Reporting website problems and suggestions.

6) Working as a DetroitIntern Network blogger.

This is a non-paying internship, but this is a great opportunity with a minimum time commitment to greatly enhance your job candidacy with an improved resume and reference letter.

Representatives should expect to commit on average at least 2-5 hours a week beginning in mid-September, 2009 through mid-December, 2009.

DetroitIntern Network is providing low-cost resume resources as part of the September 18 Fall Launch.

In this slowly improving but extremely tough economic market, recent graduates and many in transition are looking for reliable information for creating or improving one's resume.

We found that much of the information and free resources on the Internet are poorly organized, incomplete, from an unknown source, or just contain useless, bad advice.

The typical resume resource offers simplistic statements without much explanation such as the following:

"Avoid typos and grammatical errors."

Great, but how does that help! How does it relate to your own experiences? How can you fix this?

The following simple examples highlight the depth DetroitIntern Network resources will provide:

Avoid typos and grammatical errors. This is crucial because reviewers judge candidates on their grammar and spelling. Bad grammar and sloppy spelling are the equivalent of stains on an expensive suit. They create a bad appearance but can be easily cleaned. Here are some tips:

1. Use your word processor's spell check, but be careful to not rely on it only.

ex: If you spelled "effect" and you meant "affect," the spell check will not catch this mistake. But the reviewer will.

2. Proofread your resume after taking an extended break once you finish drafting your resume.

3. Have somebody else proofread your resume. Fresh eyes can see what you can't see.

4. Use active verbs and avoid passive verbs. Active verbs provide your resume personality and allows you to get straight to the point! Passive verbs make you and your resume seem wordy and boring.

For example:

Active example: "Worked in the community."
Passive example: "I was in the community working."
